Relaxed Under Pressure

Like the pre-qualifying stage of Q-School, the first stage this week was another wild experience. I found out again that I play better under pressure.

After two great rounds, my game derailed. My tee shots were all over the place and they finally caught up with me on the third round.

I went from tied for 15th to 43rd. As only 26 spots plus ties would make the cut line, things weren’t looking good going into the fourth round.

Maybe it was sheer determination. I knew what I needed to do. I loved the feeling of pressure. It kept me going.

It must be the zone the greats talk about. Everything gets blocked out. Total focus and concentration. I’d like to get it back more often.

Next week, I move onto the second qualifying stage.
