Getting a Taste of the PGA Tour

I’m glad I had many opportunities during my amateur days to travel. At one point I went as far as to the UK for the British Amateur. I’m benefiting from that now doing Monday qualifiers for PGA events. It’s a lot of travel.

The upside is just seeing other places. Andrew Parr and I were in Mexico this week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic qualifier. It was a long shot (4 places out of 132). But, we added another great experience to our pro golfer development. In really windy conditions, I managed to hit 16 fairways. My Gateway Tour experiences in Florida I’m sure helped. We battle the winds regularly.

We also saw a little bit of Mexico shuttling to and from the airport and eating out. Cancun is a beautiful place. It would be a fun place for a vacation especially at a resort. Not sure that I will ever get used to the free for all way of doing business though. It took some adjusting before we got the hang of it.

I’m back to the Gateway and other minor tours for a few weeks.
