Pushing the Edges

I have decided to spread my wings a bit this year. Get more experience by playing in a few different places other than the Gateway.

I tried out for the FBR Open in Scottsdale, Arizona to start this Thursday. Made the pre-qualifier with a 70. But my 69 for the Monday qualifier didn’t cut it. Three guys with 63s made it.

Great experience. My game is strong. Swinging much better. Still need to work on my course management.

So, I’m back to the Gateway Tour for a tournament or two while I figure out where to try out next.

Coaching Matters A Lot Now

When I’m practicing or competing, I can’t help noticing some things about my game. Often I’m not sure what to do with those thoughts. Are they really right on? Or, am I “delusional”?

This past week pointed out how important coaching is to me now. During my amateur days, I got some coaching but it was hit and miss as the coaches had many of us at the same time as their “students”. One to one coaching was tough to get at the right time.

It’s been a good week working on my putting, chipping and pitching. I even got some feedback on my full swing---posture and set up improvements.

It’s funny how much you can be completely oblivious to what you’re doing. That’s sure what I find each time I receive some feedback about something that wasn’t even on my radar. What a shock!

It’s also a boost when the coaches verify some of the same thoughts I’ve had myself.

Getting Back into Gear

I’m gearing up for a solid 2008. Right now, I’m in Dallas with my putting coach to work out any bad habits from the last few months.

I feel pretty good about my game. Won a minor league one day event this week (68) plus the skins game.

For the rest of January and into February, I’m aiming at playing in some Gateway Tour events in Florida and, for a change, Arizona.
