Clumping: A Brutal Experience

Every once in awhile things happen in clumps. My Mum tells me it’s a normal thing that mathematicians talk about. You know the feeling that you’re just having a bad day---no matter what you do, nothing works. Well, the statisticians say, that’s the way the coin falls—sometimes great, sometimes not so great. Today, I certainly experienced the coin falling the wrong way!

The course and the weather were both tough to manage. I made strategic errors in my choice of clubs and my swing off the tee started giving me trouble. All in all, not fun!

Tomorrow’s another day, as the saying goes.

Back to the practice range.

Taking Stock

I’ve finished one series and am about to start the next. After taking stock of my statistics, my work is cut out for me. I’m in the top ten for par 5 birdies, par 5 performance and total birdies. After that, I’m all over the map.

So, in my practicing, I’ve been concentrating on par four scoring and overall consistency.

The weather’s been fantastic. I still can’t get over living in a warm climate.

Getting the Rust Out

It’s been a hectic month or so, traveling to Toronto for my grandfather’s funeral and the silent auction fundraiser. So, I felt a bit rusty for my last tournament. I’m glad now to have time to focus on golf, practicing and working out.

I’ve got a nice break before the next series, so I plan to take advantage of it to do my drills and work on strategy.

Back to Golf

I was totally overwhelmed by the show of support at the silent auction on Friday. It was such a boost to my confidence to know that so many believe in me and my abilities.

I know that it’s a tough road ahead. Jerry Anderson who is in the GAO’s 2002 Hall of Fame sure made that point on Friday! We don’t have a good enough system in place in Canada for guys like me to go from amateur to pro. Maybe now that golf is an Olympic sport, we’ll see some positive change.

In the meantime, back to business!

Fundraising

I’m at home this week and happy to be back. We’re getting ready for a silent auction fundraiser to help me out in these early days of my new career. I’m already overwhelmed with how supportive people are.

After playing in seven tournaments since January 6, I’ve learned how hard it is to make money on a developmental tour. Since it’s all self-funded, unless you place in the top five, there’s not much left over by the time expenses are paid. But, it’s great experience. The unbelievable weather and the time to practice and work out are perfect for me right now.

I want to move on to the next level soon. The donations I’ve received and the funds from the silent auction this week will open doors to other tournaments.

Thanks!
