Taking An Unwelcome Break

I’m out for up to six weeks. Me and my Canadian golf buddies decided to play basketball with some local Mexican players when our first round was cancelled due to high winds last Thursday. Unfortunately I came away with an injured finger when scrambling to grab the ball.

My right ring finger is in a splint---torn ligament.

I thought I had just sprained the finger. Managed to play through the whole tournament. But people were telling me the finger’s a bit crooked.

That was confirmed by a hand specialist in West Palm Beach.

I’m glad it wasn’t any worse. But I’m not happy either. It’s going to be hard not playing golf. I’m hoping I can brush up on my putting even with a bum finger.

I’m going to look for other useful things to do while I’m on the sidelines.

A Dose of a Pros' Lifestyle on Tour

It’s a big change being on the Canadian Tour. Lots of travel and the frustrations that go with it.

I had it easy on the Gateway Tour on the travel side. All the tournaments were local. After awhile, I got to know the courses and the competitors.

We ran into our first major travel problem yesterday when flying from Cancun, Mexico to San Luis Potosi. For about 50 of us, our golf bags made it but not our luggage. Almost a day later and no luggage.

It’s all part of life on the road. Not lonely though. Depending on the tournament, there’s J. C. Deacon, Richard Scott, Andrew Parr, Mark Leon, Ryan Yip and James Lepp to hang out with. Makes everything much easier.

Back to the Canadian Tour

I’ve been busy moving, seeing my swing coach and practicing. I joined Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach for six months where I can practice all I want. Ever since I came to Florida in 2006, I have had nowhere to practice without counting and paying for the balls.

Now back to the Canadian Tour for awhile. We’re playing two events in Mexico the weeks of the 12th and 19th.

Me and my buddies are glad that the Tour has a shuttle to the hotels and back. Also the staff has organized a charter flight between the two Mexican cities.
