Wild Week in North Carolina

Thanks to my sponsors I am getting a chance to travel to pre-qualifiers and qualifiers and do some regular tournaments—Hooters and Tarheel. It’s been a bit of a wild ride. Good experience though.

At the Golf in Morocco Classic, pesky greens drove many of us nuts. Lots of bare, burnt out Burmuda. Very hard to read. I can usually depend on my short game. Took a dive.

Some guys are fine with the greens that way. Others struggle like I did. Guess I got some work to do there.

Good news is I am striping it off the tee, hitting a lot of greens. It’s been a long time in coming.

Still working on managing thoughts, doing calming exercises. Keeps me busy trying to fit it all in.

Managing Thoughts

I’m getting a lot out of Tal Ben-Shahar’s lectures. His course on positive psychology is backed up by research. Lots of details and concrete examples. I can follow what Tal is talking about and apply to myself.

For example, I’m learning to manage my thinking better when the golf ball doesn’t do what I wanted it to do. Failure is the price of learning. So, lighten up!

It’s all about how we evaluate our thoughts. Thoughts cause emotions and emotions cause motion.

Tal’s tunnel vision example stuck with me. Being careful not to get mad about the 2 bad holes I had while ignoring the 16 good ones. It’s all about being realistic in our evaluation of something that happens.
